Three updates to my U.S. House page today:
- Filled MI-08: I've decided to endorse state Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet
Prior to being elected to the Senate, she served as executive director of the Michigan Head Start Association, vice president of Michigan Future, Inc., and president/CEO of Greater Midland, Inc. She was also a Bay City Commissioner, a position that she was elected to in 2019 and most recently served as chief strategy officer for the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance.
McDonald Rivet has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in education and public administration from the University of Michigan-Flint. She and her husband, Joseph, are proud parents of six children and live in Bay City.
- Removed LA-05: This is currently a solid red seat which was briefly considered to be a swing district due to a court-ordered redistricting. In the end, however, it looks like the new district has swung completely the other way, to being a safe blue district instead. Either way, it's no longer considered a competitive seat.
- Removed Voters of Tomorrow: I still think VoT does great work, but as we move deeper into the actual election season, I've started gradually shifting away from organizations and towards specific candidates themselves. I still have VoT included on state legislative pages, but will be removing them from those as well as the filing deadlines for each state passes.
- I should note that I'm also considering removing state parties and legislative chamber caucus funds as the primaries pass as well, again in order to focus more on the actual nominees. I'll have to think about that some more, however.
